Play-based Inquiry learning
Wesley School adapts a play-based inquiry curriculum with content rooted into local characteristics of Hangzhou in order to enhance children’s interest in the learning experience. Inquiry learning draws more attention to the learning process, paying attention to learners’ participation and experience to promote their agency. The goal is not to find the correct answer, but to find a solution to the problem. The process of inquiry learning not only covers the knowledge of the five areas of learning, but also enhances the children’s self-management skills, way of thinking, research techniques, communication skills and social competence, to promote children’s curiosity, self-confidence, concentration, creation, reflection and other good learning abilities. Wesley School children with agency use their own initiative and will, and take responsibility and ownership of their learning in order to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, open-minded, risk-takers, principled, caring, reflective, knowledgeable, and balanced globally minded individuals. This active learning style helps maintain each child ’s enthusiasm toward learning, how to be honest and trustworthy, to care for others, respect school guidelines as well as respond to a changing world in order to achieve a lifelong learning ability.
